South Bethlehem Historical Society - Walker Evans Celebration

The South Bethlehem Historical Society, in partnership with several other local historical organizations, has organized a month-long celebration of renowned American photographer Walker Evans. The events are designed to bring attention to the history of south Bethlehem, especially the historic St. Michael's Cemetery, where the famous Evans' photograph was taken in 1935.

The action begins with a show of Evans' photos at TIMEZONES Global Goodies and Framing Gallery on First Friday, September 5th. On Thursday, September 25th, there is an entire evening devoted to Walker Evans. First, a guided tour of the historic St. Michael's Cemetery where Evans took his famous photo (recreate your own masterpiece!). This is followed by a lecture, "Walker Evans in the Lehigh Valley" by Evans scholar Rodger Kingston at 6:30 p.m., followed by a informal reception at TIMEZONES. On Saturday, 9/27, a trolley tour, "Footsteps of Walker Evans" will visit the sites where Evans took his photographs in Lehigh Valley (with commentary by Rodger Kingston).

All activities except the trolley tour are FREE. For more information, see attached fliers. ENJOY!
